Better Days, a band from Quezon City, recently released their EP What Comes After, featuring relatable tracks like “Ms. Suzy,” “Only One In Love,” and “My Could Have Been.” The EP, which includes singles “Unahan” and “Babe,” explores the complexities of love through heartfelt narratives, focusing on unrequited affection, one-sided relationships, and the thrill of romance. The band’s success follows the release of their previous singles.
The hero track “Babe” communicates the turmoil of unspoken feelings and unreciprocated love. With a slow yet infectious rhythm, the track invites listeners to share in their woes, immersing the audience in the feeling of longing and unfulfilled emotions. “Babe” is the type of song you listen to while pouring your heart out to friends, with lines like, “Pero paano ko ba aaminin, ang lahat ng nasa aking isip?”
According to Nigel, “Babe” is a song about someone who has developed romantic feelings for somebody but hasn’t yet mustered the courage to express it yet. “The song’s production process circles around the feeling of being drunk, singing one’s heart out to the frustration of not being able to express their feelings.”
Apart from “Babe,” the EP also contains the brand new track “Unahan,” which is a refreshing addition to the four other tracks in What Comes After. Departing from the love-themed narratives of the other songs, “Unahan” draws inspiration from Nim’s personal experiences with the Filipino commute system, a topic that holds significant meaning for him. With references to his journey, the song aims to capture the core of commuting in the Philippines. Its upbeat tempo is set to lift your spirits, providing a vibrant contrast before transitioning into the more emotional love-themed tracks that follow.
With What Comes After, Better Days has crafted an EP that beautifully captures the multifaceted nature of relationships and everyday life, wrapped in memorable hooks and thoughtful lyrics. Don’t miss out and listen to these songs on all major streaming platforms.
